My mother always had a lot of success with growing good tomatoes. Each year at the end of summer and into the early fall we had fresh, delicious tomatoes to eat. My mom would can the surplus, even though I didn’t really like eating them that way. While I really don’t like stewed tomatoes, I’m always up for eating a good tomato that is fresh. Growing tomatoes in your own garden, for that special dish, gives you one more thing to take pride in.

Tomato plants can be grown from either the starter plants preferred by most people or from early growth begun inside your home. If you want to do it this way, you can, although this method is much harder and the starter plants that are available make the process much easier. Wait until they are the right size before planting them outside or else they will not grow properly. You can transplant these plants without trouble, but make sure to give them lots of breathing room to spread out in the garden. For each plant, you’ll need to allow extra space for growth room and optimal sun exposure.

Even though a lot of people like growing large tomatoes in large gardens, those without much yard space can start their tomatoes growing in a window box. You won’t be able to plant as many plants, but even 1 plant can produce a lot of tomatoes. No matter where you plant them, growing good tomatoes requires your tender loving care. When the tomato plant begins to droop because of its weight, it must be staked up. If you want to buy a round wire frame from a garden store you can, but it works just as well to put a stake or fence next to the plant. This will make sure the tomatoes stay out of the dirt.

Healthy plants and growing large tomatoes are two benefits of using a good fertilizer on your garden. As is the case with most other plants, they need to be weeded and watered when necessary. Though some gardeners like to let their tomatoes ripen on the vine, you can pick yours before they are a juicy red color. You may pick tomatoes before they are fully red and bring them indoors to ripen. Fresh tomatoes taste better if you don’t refrigerate them. If you enjoy fresh tomatoes, try plucking some still green ones from the vine and storing them in your basement in paper bags. Done this way, they will last well for eight to 12 weeks; simply take them out and set them on the window ledge to get ripe during the autumn months.

Dogs are no longer called just pets. In many homes, they are actually part of the family. They are considered our fur kids, our babies, and our grand dogs. People are sharing life with their dogs and dogs sleep in their bedrooms, go where they go, and travel where they travel. Similar to human children, some pets wear costumes at Halloween and most find presents from Santa under the tree on Christmas morning. Many pampered pooches are also eating gourmet dog treats.

The popularity of gourmet and all natural treats is growing. Dog treats made with the equivalent ingredients found in our own food are a welcome change from the commercial brands of dog biscuits sold in supermarkets. Gourmet dog treats are a big hit with many advocates of alternative natural pet diets, and also with pet owners who just want to give their dogs a variety of healthy, yummy snacks that look superior, regardless of their daily brand of dog food.

Do you have a bakery that caters to pets in your town? These pet food bake shops are places that dogs and owners can go for fresh baked doggy cakes, brownies, and donuts in a variety of shapes, tastes, and sizes.

You can find the gourmet pet treats, which are natural and free of preservatives, packaged in little plastic bags or window boxes, at pet stores, gift boutiques, grocery stores, retail outlets as well as online. There are online gourmet pet food bakeries. Some businesses focus on dog treats, low calorie treats or treats made for pets that are sensitive to certain food.

There is something to be concerned about if your dog is overweight. The calorie and fat content in gourmet dog treats can be extremely high, even though they are made out of human grade, healthy ingredients. Check the ingredients, if your dog is overweight, and try to stick to the ones that are lower in fat. Also, keep in mind that dog treats shouldn’t be any more than ten percent of your dog’s diet.

If you are one who enjoys baking, then you can easily pamper your dog with these types of treats, straight from your own kitchen, and at a much smaller cost then buying them. For some of these dog food recipes you probably even already have the ingredients necessary, especially if you like to make bread.

You mix and bake them like other cookies, but the thickness of the dough in most dog biscuit recipes is greater than in most of our cookie recipes, so baking times are usually longer. You can also try Flint River Ranch dog food for your dog.

Many pampered pooches are eating gourmet dog treats. If you like to pamper your dog with treats, consider baking some dog food recipes fresh. If you like to bake, you probably all ready have most of the ingredients on hand and can make your loved pet a treat that is healthier and also much less expensive. You mix and bake them like other cookies, but the thickness of the dough in most dog biscuit recipes is greater than in most of our cookie recipes, so baking times are usually longer.

Dog Allergies

There are five very common dog allergies which include flea allergy, inhalant allergy, food allergy and skin allergy. Up to forty percent of dogs that have been examined have proven positive for flea allergy. Inhalant allergies, also known as atopy, include pollen, mold, mildew, and dust mites. Dogs suffer from food allergies on a annual basis rather than a seasonal basis like atopy. Skin allergies include ringworm and mange and they are classified as fungal diseases. Three of the more common dogs that have these health conditions are golden retrievers, poodles, and bull dogs.

Dog Health Issues By Breed

Golden Retrievers have a reputation for being family dogs since they are patient and non-aggressive. However, new pet owners must also be aware of their medical issues as well. Golden retrievers are sensitive to hip dysplasia, congenital eye defects, Von Willebrand’s disease, heart problems, and skin allergies. Some of these health concerns may appear severe while some may not. This dog breed is sensitive to all of the allergies. It is important to your golden retriever’s health that you schedule annual check ups to make sure they are healthy.

Poodles have a reputation for being cheerful, super smart, sensitive and highly trainable companions. However, new pet owners must also be aware of their health conditions as well. Poodles are prone to several medical conditions. Cataracts, allergies, and several types of diseases are prevalent in this breed. The food allergy seems to be the dominant allergy among poodles. Most of the health conditions are on the serious side but can be managed so that they can live a long healthy life.

Bulldogs have a reputation for being gentle and good with children. However, new pet owners should also be aware of their health conditions as well. Some of the medical conditions that you should aware and watch out for include breathing troubles, poor eyesight, skin infections and hip & knee problems. Most of the health conditions are on the serious side but can be managed so that they can live a long healthy life.

A few allergy symptoms include chewing, scratching, hair loss, and ear infections. You should schedule an exam if your canine exhibits these symptoms. Their well-being depends on you!
